Structural Similarities in Nature
I recently came across an article about a study about the similarities between the internal structure of neurons in our brain and the arrangement of filaments of matter between galaxy clusters in the universe. The study uses computer simulations and shows how growth dynamics of real systems, like the brain and the expanding universe as a whole, may follow the same rules. The study does not say that the universe is conscious or “thinks” like a brain. It simply states that galaxy clusters within the universe, and brain cells within the brain form similar networks.
The scientists say that the similarities are significant because they suggest that there may be some, yet undiscovered fundamental laws that govern the growth of systems in nature, from the very small to the immensely large.
